Renaissance Fair at ELI

After coming back from DC, on Sunday there was a Renaissance Fair at the ELI. This event was organized by the Renaissance club of Newark. Jim Matier (on of tutors here) was the head of the event. The fair was smaller than I expected, yet it's OK. There were some interesting activities to see and to try. The knight fighting in armors was not that exciting like I thought. It was quite slow and end very fast. The most interesting part is Archery.

I had a chance to try to shoot a bow. I had never done this before. It's very awesome! Although the first few shots I missed, I could hit the target after in later shots. I had just realized that it took a lot of power to bend a bow. Moreover, to shoot accurately was much more harder.

I love DC !!

July 14th, 2007 is a trip to Washington DC. It's my first trip here since I came to the U.S. I was very excited, and counting for this day.

We started our trip at 8.30 AM. The bus was waiting for us in front of our dorm. It took 2 hours from Newark to DC. After we arrived, we got off at the Smithsonian Museum in the heart of DC. It was very big collection of museums. The Aerospace, Art, Modern Art, Sculptures, National History, American History museums were collected to be placed together here.

Even if we had plenty of time before we left (we left at 7.00 PM), we couldn't see it all. Many many interesting places were left unseen. The climax of this trip was the Lincoln Memorial and the National Archives (where the declaration of Independence was showed). We took a lot of pictures here. It's nearly 1000 pictures! (wow, how crazy were we)

Lincoln memorial was terrific place to see. It was located in the best location. The Washington memorial was right in front of it, and there was a large rectangular pool in front of the Lincoln memorial which was very beautiful.

Lincoln's quotes was great, even if it was hard to understand. The language was old-fashioned, so I couldn't understand it all. There was also Martin Luther King Jr's classic quote on the stairway to the memorial hall: "I have a dream." This may be the origin of the American dream.

My EAP VI Reading & Writing Class

My second class is EAP VI Reading & Writing class. From left to right, top to bottom, Ken Cranker (the teacher), Yiam (Thai friend who study in Columbia University, wow!), Dalia (Turkish girl), Hey Min (Korean girl), P'Arm (Thai police), P'Kluay (Oceanologist), Ji Hye (from my first class), P'Aow (Pharmachist), Ibrahim (Sau' guy), me, and Abdhullasiz (Sau or something?). Unforetunately, this picture does not include Pinn, who left earlier.

This class specialized on academic writing. I had tons of assignments. Most of them were essays. I had just realized that there were many types of essay: persuasive, evaluative, process, etc. However, atmosphere in class was very nice. Ken was very funny (he said his name is oxymoron which means two opposite meaning words grouped together). He was a potential teacher and well-prepared. I learned a lot from this class, and I felt more confident to write academically. Thank you Ken.

My EAP VI Listening & Speaking class

These are all my friends in EAP VI Listening & Speaking class. From left to right, top to bottom, Anne (the lovely teacher), Nagehan (Turkish girl), Abdhulla (Saudiarabian boy), Ji Hye (Koran girl), P'Kung (a Thai nurse teacher), Kevin (Korean boy), Mate (Mathmatician boy), P'Joe (Math boy too), P'Ann (nurse teacher as well), Sophie (Chinese woman), me, Yu Jong (Korean woman), and Kathy.

This class is wonderful! I really love my teacher, Anne. She always did funny sounds to show us how to pronounce words, for example, how to pronounce "WORLD", or "RARELY." Her favorite word is "oh, dear; oh, my god; not a big deal." Moreover, she always showed winks. ;D

On the other hand, classmates were great! Most of them speak English very well. Every class is fun especially in debate class. I want to study in the class like this again, and again.

Shopping Shopping !!!

Christiana Mall, the best shopping center in Newark, Delaware, is our favorite place to go. We always go here every friday afternoon. CM composes of Macy, JC Penny, Circuit City, and many other shops. Most of our budget was gone with the purchases here. Pinn (the girl on the most left), Ben (the boy sitting on the right), P'Chai (a man in the white shirt), P'Jeab (not in this picture) bought MacBook from the Apple shop inside CM. Other merchandises bought from here include sunglasses, clothes (many many), shoes, bags, StarBucks (which I've never drink in Thailand. It's more than 100 Bath!), and Japanese foods. The most hours we spent here is 7 hours! Oh, sounds very crazy, but it's true. Everyone in our group loves Christiana Mall.

ELI - a small pretty school

ELI (English Language Institute) is the place we study the intensive English course at UD. Liked the director of the ELI (Dr. Steven) said, it makes me feel like I'm in the United Nations. ELI composes of many international students from around the world. I have many Korean, Saudiarabian, Turkish, etc. friends here. The picture 1 was taken in front of the ELI.

Everyday we walk to school. ELI looks like a small castle (the picture on the left). It has 3 floors. One of my class was held on the 3rd floor, and another is on the 2nd floor. Even if the class started at 8.20, we always came late (around 8.30 AM). Ben always said "I don't know why the people are always hurry. They don't even know what they hurry for." Hmm.. it's a great quote.

Life in the University of Delaware (II)

"UD was awesome!" This is a word in my mind after I lived here for 2 weeks. I didn't know I had this s impression because I lived with my Thai friends or not. Maybe if I came alone, I would feel lonely and not fun like this. Every day passed very fast. We went to class in the morning, and found an activity to do every afternoon. Except shopping, movies were our favorite paste time here. The theater was not far from the school, so it was walkable to see the movie.

This picture was taken when I was waiting for a bus to go to Christiana Mall. Good lighting!
